Stanley F. Naruz, “the Sun man”, “Pops”, 90, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 due to complications of cancer. Stan was born October 1, 1926, to Frank and Stella Naruszewicz in Chicago. He attended St. Hedwig grade School and Lane Technical High School, both in Chicago. He joined the U.S. Army in January 1945, served in the Marianas Islands, on Saipan and Tinian. Stan served as a mechanic with an automotive maintenance company, and in the Transportation Corps as an operator of a barge mounted 60 ton floating crane. Discharged as Staff Sergeant Tech-3 in November 1946. Graduate of Carter Carburetor Factory Service School, worked 7 years as Tune-up Technician at Devon Ridge Packard in Chicago. Stan married Marcie Strothman in Chicago in August 1953. They moved to Rockford, where Stan worked as zone Sales and service representative for the Sun Engine Testing Equipment Corporation. He loved his work and the challenge of automotive engine diagnosis. He met many auto service technicians, some became lifelong friends. He also taught Automotive Engine Testing classes in the Rockford Adult, and Rock Valley College education programs. Stan retired in June 1989 after 36 years. He was an active scuba diver, swimmer and ballroom dancer. Member of the Rockford Divers Association, St. Edwards Catholic Church and the YMCA. Stan loved and was dedicated to his family, but what his family and friends enjoyed most, were receiving greeting cards he had created on his computer. They were works of art and treasured by all that received them. He had a zest for life. A wonderful smile and would lend a hand to all.
Survivors include his 4 cherished sons, Larry (Pat), Steve (Novella), Frank and Randy and their mother, Marcie; beloved grandchildren, Nick, Ronnie and Natalie; also the best “Uncle Stash” to many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Abbie Hubbell. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Harriet (Henry) Franczkowski, Florence (Dan) Henry and Jean (Frank) Monikowski and brother, Casey (Dorothy) Naruszewicz.
