Stanley Cunningham, 86, of Machesney Park, passed away February 28, 2017 at Mercy Health Systems. Born May 9, 1930, in Lanark, IL, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Tomman) Cunningham. He graduated from Lanark High School, class of 1948. Served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Married Betty Noe on April 19, 1952. He was a member of the Lombardi Club and of Saint Bridget's Catholic Church. Stanley was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, he also enjoyed NASCAR and his pontoon boats. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling with his friends. During his life he worked for Rockford Standard Furniture, retiring in 1992. Later he enjoyed working for Al Grace Appliances, all the way up to his passing. Stanley was known as a hard worker and always wanting to provide for his family. He was a friend to many and never met a stranger. He will be truly missed.
Survivors include sons, Doug (Holly) and Daniel Cunningham; daughters Dodie (Mark) Degener and Dianna (Jeff) Limberg; grandchildren Andy and Shannon Cunningham, Jason Limberg, Katie (Brian) Cottrill and Lucy Degener; 4 great grandchildren; Brother Donald (Joanie) Cunningham and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by parents, wife, son David, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. Bridget Church, 600 Clifford Ave, Loves Park, IL. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation Sunday from 2-4 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103 and Monday from 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. at church.
