Sila Sonthixay, 75, passed away on December 6, 2020. Born on July 1, 1945 in the provenance Sayaboury in Laos he was son to Sima and Thouat (Sengdara) Sengdet. After graduating from 6th grade Sila went on to become a soldier in the CIA activities in Laos for over ten years. In January of 1981 Sila and Samly migrated to the United States. He was a man of faith and loved to spread the word of the gospel. In 2008 they joined the Lao Evangelical Free Church in Rockford. Sila also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling wherever he could.
Sila will be missed by those who loved him most, his wife of 53 years, Samly (Vongsa) Sonthixay; his children Seng Sonthixay, Sipraseuth (Ling) Sonthixay, Nia (Aleck) Phommavong, and Southsy (Michael) Vongphakdy; his grandchildren Jada and Alexis Phommavong, Justyce Vongphakdy, Solyda, Linda and Charlotte Sonthixay; his sisters Sida and Champa Sonthixay. He was predeceased by his parents; his granddaughter Juliana Vongphakdy; sibling Somchith Sonthixay.
A family funeral service will take place on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. the service will be on www.zoom.us with Meeting ID: 828 5309 3166 and Passcode: 123. A visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2020 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. A burial will take place the following day at 12:00 p.m, Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Arlington Cemetery.
