Shirley M. Wood

Shirley M. Wood, 99, of Rockford, passed away on June 1, 2024. She was born on June 21, 1924, in Rockford, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Heiter) Peck. She married William Curtis Wood on November 28, 1942, and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1971. Shirley stayed home to raise their two children, Michael and Janice, and later on worked as a machine operator at Warner Lambert for 17 years. She had a passion for traveling and especially loved visiting Shipshewana, Indiana and different Amish communities. She enjoyed reading, gardening and taking care of her lawn. Shirley adored and cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, blessed with many years of memories with her family. She was always happy and had a contagious laugh. She had a strong and spitfire personality, and was a loving and beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. 

She is survived by her children, Michael (Donna) Wood and Janice McGuire; grandchildren, John (Robin) Wood, Michael Wood, Brandon (Jackie) Nason, Jamie (Stacey) Nason, Caitlin (fiancé, Sergio Lopez) McGuire; great grandchildren, Dustin, Jaden, Brooke, Hunter, Ava, Tyler, Carmyne, and Raine; and special friend, Paula Taylor. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Bill; brother, Ward Beecher Peck; and sisters, Jeanne Elizabeth Fraser, Charlene Louise Flower, Donna Lee Dobratz, and Patricia Ann Dobratz. 

The family would like to give a special thank you to Crystal with OSF Hospice and the care team at Cherry Vale Place/Trustwell Living for their wonderful care of Shirley. 

A Funeral Service will be on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103.
