Shirley Cherrey, 90, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Rosewood Care Center. She was born November 15, 1922 in Chicago, the daughter of Albert and Elsie Wiese. She graduated from Beloit College in 1945, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Shirley married Thomas Cherrey on October 7, 1944. After moving to Rockford in 1959, they started Business Furniture together in 1961. Shirley and Tom were charter members of St. Anskars Church, where Shirley served on the Altar Guild. She also was a volunteer for many years at St Anthony Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband Thomas, five daughters: Susan (Steven) Hare of Rockford, Sarah Cherrey of Rockford, Beth (Douglas) Kollmyer of Riverside, CA, Ann (Ron) Kurtz of St Charles and Barbara (Richard) Meeks of Rockford, and six grandchildren: Molly, Patrick, Emily, Tom, Tyler and Kaitlyn. Predeceased by her parents, one brother and one sister. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Rosewood Care Center for their loving and compassionate care to Shirley.
Memorial service at 11am Tuesday February 19, 2013 in St Anskars Episcopal Church, 4801 Spring Creek Rd., with Pastor Andrea Wight officiating.
