Shirley A. McCoy, 84, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in Alden Park Strathmoor Nursing Home. She was born February 13, 1925, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert and Veneita (Wells) Cummings. Shirley lived most of her life in Rockford, but also lived in Madison WI, and Peoria. She married Edward J. McCoy, in Rockford, on August 18, 1951. He predeceased her in July 30, 1969. Shirley worked as a RN at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford Public Schools as a School Nurse and at Shriners Childrens Hospital in Chicago. She is a member of Cathedral of St. Peter. Graduate of West HighSchool and St Anthony School of Nursing.She is survived by her children; Lucy McCoy (Gregg) Pearson of Rockford, Mary (Craig) Adkins of Richmond, KY, and Thomas (Dana) McCoy of River Grove; grandchildren, Emily Adkins, Charles McCoy and Jake McCoy; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Edward, and brother, Robert Cummings.Mass of Resurrection at 10 am, Friday, January 15, 2010, in Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St., Rockford, IL 61103 with Fr. Kenneth Wasilewski officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 6pm to 8pm Thursday, January 14, 2010, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Rockton Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford, IL 61103 with a Rosary recited at 7:30 pm. Visitation also on Friday one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Crusader Clinic, 1200 W. State St. Rockford, IL 61101 or the Edward "Speed" McCoy scholarship fund at Boylan Catholic High School.
