Sherwin Scott Williams, 69, of Winnebago, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, November 9, 2013. He was born on August 6, 1944 in Brent, OK, to Jess and Okla (Scott) Williams. He grew up on a farm in Sallisaw, OK. Sherwin was US Army Veteran serving 16 months in Vietnam from 1965-1967. He had three children; Julie of Scotland; Stephen (Ann) of Green Bay, WI. and Thomas (Andrea), of Rockford and 8 grandchildren. Sherwin married Linda (Moss) Williams on November 24, 2000 in Rockford. They have an adopted son, Elijah Little Eagle, at home. He also had four step-children; Steven Moss, of Berwyn, IL, Timothy (Jamie) Moss, Kevin (Van) Moss, all of Downers Grove, Il and Lia (Ben) Blair; 10 step-grandchildren. Sherwin's siblings were Pauline, Ruby, Donald (Carol) Williams, Mary (Rex) Lauderdale, Owasso, Ok, Paul and Bill (Ruth), of Oklahoma City and Sandra (Charles) Schmidt, of Benton, AK. Sherwin was a graduate of Sallisaw, Ok. High School, Rock Valley College and Rockford Christian College. He was a pastor of Blessed Hope Bible Church in Rockford and Ripley Church of God, Ripley, IL. He formerly worked at UPS and Chandler Machine Shop before becoming a minister.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Donald and sister, Ruby. Sherwin was a kind and forgiving man- a true gentleman. He loved his country, his family and above all, his Lord. "…The time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:6-7
Funeral service at 12:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service.
