Sheila M. Kordash, 69, Belvidere, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 13, 2018. She was born July 10, 1949, in Rockford, the daughter of Maurice and Verna (Thompson) Johnson. Sheila graduated from Rockford East High School, the class of 1967. She married Gary Kordash in Rockford on October 9, 1971. She worked at Travelers Insurance and later owned and operated Mulford Laundry from 1992 until 2016. Sheila was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere. She was a past member of Holy Family Catholic Church and grew up attending Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Sheila was a past board member of Rockford Rescue Mission, a member of the Rockford Woman’s Club for many years, volunteered for St. Vincent DePaul and served in the Adoration Chapel at Holy Family Catholic Church for over 15 years. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and cards with her friends and belonged to a birthday club for over 35 years. She adored her travels with family and friends – visiting South Africa, South America, Europe, Machu Picchu, Galapagos Islands, Scandinavia, the United States and the annual family vacation to The Little Red Cabin Up North.
Survived by her loving husband, Gary; her children, Sarah (Brent) Anderson of Naperville, Laura (Brian) Honda of Chicago and Andrew (Melissa Kent) Kordash of Rockford; her grandchildren, Jenna, Grace, and Garrett Anderson, Luke and Dexter Honda, and Gavin Kent; her siblings, Carol Swenson of Rockford, Connie (Dale) Gustafson of Belvidere, Keith (Darlene) Johnson of Greenville, TN, Marty (Sharon) Johnson of Warren, and Sonia (John) Pofelski of Rockford; her sister-in-law, Barb Johnson; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Valerie Kordash; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and special friends. Predeceased by her parents, her brother, Neil Johnson, (survived by his wife, Dorothy) and her brother-in-law, Reg Swenson.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church St., Belvidere with Reverend Brian Geary officiating. Burial in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Belvidere. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, November 19, 2018, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. Memorials may be made to the church, or to Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State St. Rockford, 61102, or to Poor Clare Colettine Nuns at Corpus Christi Monastery, 2111 S.
