Sharon Kay Todd Kooi, 73, Huntley, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014, in Rosewood Health Care Center. She was born December 9, 1940, in Harington, Nebraska, the daughter of Milferd and Elsie (Lemke) Schmeckpeper. She graduated from Wendell High School in Wendell, Idaho in 1959. She graduated with her bachelor's degree from Concordia College in 1963, and later obtained her Master's degree from National Louis University. Sharon was married to Jack H. Todd for over 20 years and he passed away July 8, 1985. She then married Duane T. Kooi and he passed away February 2, 2000. Sharon was a teacher in the Wood Dale School District #7 from August, 1963, until her retirement in June of 2002, and was a mentor to many children. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Gilberts. She enjoyed camping with her family when they were young, traveling extensively, searching her genealogy, was and excellent quilter. She made many of the banners at her church. Sharon was an avid traveler visiting sights around the world.
Survived by her children, Lee Anne Foltz of Winnebago, Jack Todd of Winnebago, Mike (Kelli) Kooi of Wauconda, and Steve (Andrea) Kooi of Lake in the Hills, her grandchildren, Bryanna Knutsen, Bianca Foltz, Jenna Foltz, Alexander Todd, Nick, Zack, Max, and Kristina, Jacob, and Jimmy Kooi; her great granddaughter, Brooklynn Foltz; her sisters, Barbara (Wayne) Knotts and Jolene (Roger) Gunn. Predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Jack and Duane, her grand-daughter, Kaitlin Kooi, her sister, Donna, her brother, Dennis, and her son-in-law, Chris Foltz.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 27, 2014, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 18 N. 377 Galligan Rd, Dundee, IL 60136 with Reverend Bruce Milash officiating. For more information call the church at 847-428-4054. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the memorial service. Private family burial in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Schaumburg, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be divided between the Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the Veteran's organizations. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
