Sharon K. Gay

Sharon K. Gay, 73, of Rockford, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Amberwood Nursing Home. Born January 29, 1944 in Rockford the daughter of LeRoy and Naomi (Stanley) Hand. Married Maurice “Maurie” E. Gay on April 2, 1966 in Rockford at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Worked for Modern Metal – Green Giant Canning for 10 years and then worked for Zion Development Corporation in the Inspection Department until her retirement in 1995. Sharon was an avid Bingo player and couldn’t pass up a good game of Poker. She enjoyed her family and many friends and cherished her time spent with them. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Amberwood Nursing Home, Northern Illinois Hospice Association and OSF Medical Center Peoria/Rockford.
Survivors include her husband Maurie of Rockford; children, Michael (Monsina) Gay of Machesney Park, Mark (Fiancé Anna Wrobel) Gay of Rockford and Michelle Morrisett of Rockford; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Heather, Austin, Nathan and Mason; step grandchildren, Tara, Joshua, Ashley and Heidy; great grandchildren, Tylor, Alex, Anthony, Oliver, Gavin, Natalie; step grandchildren, Derek, Avery, Rylan, Dezmond, Noah, Madison, Jaxon and Chloe; brother, Bruce (Nancy) Hand of Rockford; sister, Mary “Jody” (Rodney) Anderson of Belvidere and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Mark Morrisett and brother, Mark E. Hand.
Funeral service Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev. Randy Young officiating. Interment in Willwood Burial Park.
