Sharon D. Hardt Gartman

Sharon D. Hardt Gartman, 84, of Benton, KY passed away at home on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

Sharon was born in Wilton, WI on January 6, 1939, daughter of Otto and Hazel (Tuttle) Hardt. She married John “Jack” William Gartman on September 12, 1984. He passed away on September 21, 2006. Sharon worked as a nurse’s aide for 13 years at White Mountain Hospital in Arizona and later as a line operator at Swiss Colony for 8 years. She was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand, IL. She also attended St. Peter Catholic Church in South Beloit, IL and was a member of St. Henry in Hardin, KY. Sharon enjoyed birdwatching, doing puzzles and visiting casinos in her free time. Most of all, she cherished her time with family, especially her dear grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her children, Lorena Hill and Veronica (James) Rogers; 2 bonus children, Julie (Aaron) Gracyalny and Nick Gartman; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and 2 more on the way; her sisters, Sue (Burdette) Brown and Nardena (Jerry) Brown and numerous nieces and nephews. Sharon is predeceased by her parents; husband, Jack; 2 sons, Greg and Robert Hill; 4 siblings, Buster and Frederick (Lou) Hardt, Zeta (Preston) Foster and Donna (Johnny) Owens; grandson, Lee Baca and great-granddaughter, Jade Baca.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. located at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford, IL. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 W. Main Street in Durand, IL. Final resting place will conclude in St. Mary Cemetery in Durand.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of Paducah, KY, especially nurse Stephanie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sharon’s name to a local hospice care company or to a charity of your choice.
