Sergio P. Petti

Sergio Paes Petti, 74, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 7, 2024, surrounded by love. Born on June 11, 1950, in São Paulo, Brazil, Sergio was the cherished son of Orlando and Celita (Paes) Petti.

In 1980, Sergio married the love of his life, Hilevi Cristina Yamaki, in Brazil. Together, they built a beautiful life over 44 years of marriage, full of love, laughter, and treasured memories. Sergio’s entrepreneurial spirit shone when he founded Combustherm in 1988, building a strong partnership with Eclipse of Rockford. In 1996, he accepted a role with Eclipse to develop their Latin American market, a position that allowed him to showcase his expertise and vision. Over the years, he also led their engineering team while continuing his work with Combustherm, seamlessly balancing both roles. Sergio’s dedication and leadership earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Sergio was a man of many talents and boundless energy. In his younger years, he was a gymnast, a soccer player, a sports car racer, and later discovered a lifelong passion for tennis—all pursuits that reflected his adventurous spirit and competitive drive. Later, he poured his heart into family, work, and hobbies, from home projects inspired by his engineer’s mind to hosting churrascos for family and friends. Sergio also had a deep love for music and action movies, often sharing his favorite songs and films with those closest to him.

Above all, Sergio’s greatest joy was his family, especially his four grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. Whether cheering them on, reading stories, or simply spending time together, “Vovô” Sergio brought laughter and love to every moment. He was known for his heart of gold and his willingness to help anyone at the drop of a hat, embodying kindness and generosity in all he did.

Sergio is survived by his beloved wife, Hilevi; his children, Marcelo (Melissa Birchall) Petti of Buffalo Grove and Paula (Albert) DiGiovanni of Chicago; and his precious grandchildren, Isabela, Lucca, Matteo, and Leonardo. He also leaves behind his siblings, Celso (Elisabeth) Petti and Celiana Petti, along with his aunt Enide Paes, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A visitation to honor and celebrate Sergio’s extraordinary life will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 South Mulford Road Rockford, Illinois 61108. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd, Rockford, IL 61107.

Sergio’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and joy. He touched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire much laughter, generosity, and love.
