Sandra "Sandy" J. Cooney

Sandra “Sandy” J. Cooney, 77, of Rockford, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022. She was born December 31, 1944, in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Drexel Arnold “D.A” and Emily Jane (Legg) Fossett. Sandy married Carl Robert “Bob” Cooney on March 1, 1968 in Rockford, Illinois. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She worked so hard around the holidays to make them special for her children and grandchildren. She and Bob hosted parties and cookouts in their backyard, which they enjoyed so much. She loved decorating her home, planting flowers, and spending time with her family, friends, and three dogs.
Sandy is survived by her children, Tracey (John) Pozzi, Toni (Tom) Dole, Nicholas (Vicki Akins) Cooney, and Bryan Ullrich; grandchildren, Brittany Pankhurst, Ashley Cooney, Luciano Pozzi, Courtney Cooney, Nicholas Cooney Jr., Cassiana Pozzi, Jonah Dole, Jude Dole, and Birdie Dole; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jaxon, Ariana, Kayden, Jace, Jaxxon, and Jayce. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl, brother, John Fossett, and sister-in-law, Cecelia Aumann. The family would like to thank granddaughter Brittany for being a reliable and compassionate caregiver.
