Samuel J. Leeson

Samuel J. Leeson, 24, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with depression. Sam was born on October 7, 1998 to Jeff and Diane Leeson. Sam is survived by his parents; sister, Jenna Leeson; brother, Jack Leeson; grandfather, Plato Leeson; grandmother, Irma Hocking, as well as his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandfather, Bernard Hocking; grandmother, Phyllis Leeson, and cousin, Mason Balsman.

Growing up, Sam enjoyed playing hockey and was a part of the Rockford Raptors soccer team. He enjoyed sports from a young age, and liked spending time with the family watching the Green Bay Packers play. Sam attended Guilford High School and was employed by Amazon. He later in life enjoyed fishing, kayaking, and spending time with his dogs, Rocky and Milo. Sam was a strong, selfless, and loving soul. His friends and family know that Sam has finally found peace. Sam was loved by many and will be greatly missed. His love and legacy will continue to live on through his family and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Cathedral of St. Peter (1243 N. Church Street, Rockford, IL 61103). The visitation will be held from 10am – 11am. Mass will begin at 11am. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery (8616 West State Street, Winnebago, IL 61088). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NAMI Northern Illinois (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in Sam’s honor.
