Sam Stima, 85, a lifelong resident of Rockford, died Monday, August 29, 2016 in his home. Born August 9, 1931 the son of Joseph and Mildred (Radanovich) Stima. Married his loving wife Phyllis Smith and together had 3 beautiful children. Worked for over 40 years at Atwood Manufacturing retiring in 1996. He enjoyed camping with his family and making some great friends at Crystal Lake Campground in Lodi, WI. Sam was a regular at Latham Tap, especially on Taco Tuesdays and loved watching Family Feud. He was a kind and caring husband, father and grandfather with a heart of gold, he will be missed dearly by his family. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Visiting Nurses Association and to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and time they gave to Sam.
Survivors include his children, Joseph (Paula) Stima of Rockford; Joni (Bjorn) Sather of Roscoe and Jeffery (Karen) Stima of Roscoe; grandchildren, Carla (Garwin) Richmond, Joshua and Jacob Stima; great grandchildren, Bree, Jesica, Payton and Jaylyn Richmond and Eden Keefe-Stima; great-great grandchild, Bailey Shackleton; sister, Joy (David) Jacobs and sister-in-law, Barb Stima and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife and brother, Nicholas Stima.
Funeral service Friday, September 2, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service.
