Sam G. Marsala, 90 of Rockford died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Presence Cor Maria Center surrounded by his family. Born March 10, 1925 in Rockford the son of George and Clara (Armato) Marsala. Sam served in the United States Air Force and was a WWII combat flyer from 1943 – 1945. Married his loving wife Marie Mazzola on January 20, 1946 whom preceded him in death in Sept. 1986. Sam owned his own trucking business and worked for Browning Ferris for 26 years. He was a member of the Teamsters, the Lombardi Club, the Harmony Club, local VFW Posts and was a Knight of Columbus. He loved sports and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Survivors include his son, Randy (Jean) Marsala; daughter, Linda (Jim) Dennis, grandchildren, Michael (Leanne) LaSala, Lisa LaSala and Brittany (Dan) Olson; great grandchildren, Colin and Brooke Ramsby; sister-in-law, Antoinette (Leno) Zandonia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, his wife and 13 brothers and sisters.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave. Visitation Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary Service to be recited at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Interment will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family for a fund to be established. Express online condolences at: www.fitzgeraldfh.com
