Sam Calcione

Sam J. Calcione, 96, of Rockford, died Thursday, May 26, 2016 in his home. Born Sept. 19, 1919 in Rockford the son of Samuel and Catherine Calcione. A United States Army Veteran serving during WWII and came home to marry his beautiful bride, Sally Narramore. Sam was the owner and operator of “The Spa” until his retirement at age 65. A faithful member of St. Rita Catholic Church, an avid golfer and had a love for western movies and old west cowboys. He was always busy but loved to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. He was a kind and caring man who loved life and the friends he and Sally made along the way, he will be missed. The family wishes to thank his 24 hour caregivers, Dorothy, Kim, Lavendar, Jackie and to OSF Hospice Care especially Julie, Kris, Michelle, Kathy and Tina for their compassionate and dedicated care of Sam.
Survivors include his numerous nieces and nephews and special friends and family Hazel and Sal Armato, Roy (Judi) Tammen and Judy Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally in 2011; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church 6284 Valley Knoll Dr. with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:45 am. Private burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to: OSF Hospice, 5501 E State St, Rockford, IL 61108.
