Salvatore “Sam” W. Guinta, 85, of Rockford passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born January 30, 1931 in Chicago, the son of Salvatore C. and Mary (Capo) Guinta. A veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Sam married his first wife, Mildred DeSilvio on May 26, 1951 and she preceded him in death on May 26, 1986. He later married Rosalyn “Kay” (Morris) Meserole on September 7, 1989. Sam was an independent insurance agent until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, other crafts, and travel. Survivors include his wife, Kay; children: Stephen (Kathy) Guinta, Richard (Laurie) Guinta, Pamela (Chris) Meserole, Douglas Meserole, Jeffery (Robin) Meserole, Kimberly (Marc) Welsh, and Robin (Carl) Scalise; daughters-in-law: Lorrie Meserole and Oki Meserole; grandchildren: Heather (Tony) Brescia, Kelli Meserole, Benji Meserole, Jeremy (Celena) Meserole, Krysta (Steven) Moore, Eric Welsh, Xander (Rachel) Welsh, Nicole (Michael) Lashock, and CJ Scalise; great grandchildren: Katelyn Brescia and Landon Leigh.
Visitation is Monday, March 21, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 South Mulford Road from 5-7 p.m. and continues on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until time of prayer at 9:45 a.m. Funeral Mass is Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road.
