Ruth Mary Alfredson, 82
Rockford—Ruth Mary Alfredson, 82, this good and faithful servant was called home by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 15, unexpectedly and peacefully. Born September 25, 1933 in Pardeeville, WI to Harold and Lillian (Warnke) Eggleston. Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Graduated in 1951 from Pardeeville High School and in 1953 from Colombia County Normal with a teaching certificate. Ruth taught in one-room country schools in rural areas of Columbia County WI, and then taught in the Rockford area at White Swan and Gonzalez schools. She opened Lady Bug Daycare and continued educating and caring for many, many children in her 20 years of service. Ruth loved reading, quilting, all things PBS and NPR and was a formidable Jeopardy contestant from her armchair. Volunteering was very near and dear to her heart; teaching inmates reading skills, serving our community at Northern Illinois Food Bank, answering phones for Winn-cart, and evangelizing.
Survivors, Children; John (Linda) Fields, Kurt Alfredson, Teena Santos, Karen (Matt) Jurasek, and Kristin (Walter) Jackson. Grandchildren: Rachael, Matthew, Carly, Kimberly, Joshua and Cameron; Sister Judith Edwards and Sister-in-law, Joyce Eggleston. Predeceased by her Parents, Brother Norman and Ex-Husband Ernest.
Funeral Service 11 am Thursday, November 19, 2015 at New Life Lutheran Church 1100 N. Lyford Road, Rockford, Il 61107 with Pastor Philip Henselin officiating. Visitation from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at church. Burial in Marcellon Cemetery in Pardeeville, WI at 11:30 Friday, November 20, 2015. Memorials may be made in Ruth’s name to NewLife Lutheran Church 1100 N. Lyford Rd.
