Ruth "Gerry" G. Stone

Ruth Geraldine Stone, known to family and friends as “Gerry”, died 11/12/2022 after a long and courageous struggle with multiple medical issues. Born September 17, 1928, she was pleased to celebrate her 94th birthday. Daughter of Thomas and Ruth McIntyre, Gerry grew up in humble conditions in Cantrall near Springfield, Illinois, where she met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Stone, in 1949. They moved to Belvidere and later Rockford/Loves Park, and raised three children, David, Sheila, and Donald. Gerry was a housewife and homemaker who also worked many years at Bergner’s as an auditor. After retirement, she and Ken traveled the country visiting all 50 states before settling in much-loved Tucson and Green Valley, Arizona. Gerry Spent her later years at Siena on Brendenwood in Rockford.

Gerry was a strong and determined person. She knew her own mind and kept her own counsel. Loss was a major issue in her life, and she faced the challenge courageously numerous times. It was evident she was devoted to her family and close friends. She will be missed by many.

Gerry is survived by son David; daughter, Sheila (Edward) Sola; granddaughter, Christina (Arthur) Gillette; great grandchildren, Jane, Apollo and Kenny Gillette; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Kenneth; son, Donald; daughter-in-law, Denise; brother, Thomas McIntyre and beloved pet, Barney. The grief at loss is tempered by the joy of their lives.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. A candle lighting service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to a charity of choice in Gerry’s name.
