Russell W. Paulson, 53, passed away surrounded by his family on September 13, 2024. Born on May 6, 1971, in Parsons, Kansas, Russell's journey took an adventurous turn when, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the delayed entry program for the U.S. Marine Corps on October 12, 1988. His commitment to serve his country was unwavering, as he bravely entered active duty on January 18, 1989. Russell underwent rigorous training, specializing in AV-8B Harrier aircraft communications and navigation, and served as a weapons systems technician. His exemplary service earned him numerous awards. After five years of distinguished service, he was honorably discharged on January 17, 1994, and settled in Rockford, Illinois. He started work at Raytheon where he met his bride, LeAnne, and they wed at Midway Village in 1999. Russell went on to start his own business, SWORKS. In his downtime, Russell found joy in hobbies that reflected his spirited nature. Whether savoring a good craft beer, relishing the speed and thrill of F1, motorcycles, cruising in classic cars, or cherishing moments spent with his family, he embraced life fully and vibrantly. Russell worked hard and played hard, even though he spent the last few months actively battling cancer, he never let that take his dedicated spirit.
He will be missed by those who loved him most, his wife of 25 years, LeAnne; children Matthew (Courtney) Gabel and Megan (Branden) Johnson; grandchildren Landen, Emerson, and Breckin Johnson; and all his family and friends who were there for him before and during the last months of his courageous battle. Predeceased by his mother, stepfather, and mother-in-law.
A time to come and celebrate his life will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford Illinois 61108. A prayer service will take place at 5:00 p.m. with Military Honors to follow.
