Rockford- Rudolph K. Wessels, 90, passed away in his home. Born March 1, 1927 in Ridott, IL, the son of George & Marie Arvilla (Sluiter) Wessels. After attending Rockford schools, Rudy served in the Navy (the Seabees) from 1945 to 1946. Upon leaving the service, Rudy started his own building and contracting firm, building many homes in the Rockford area. Along with his cousin, Rudolf Weimann of St. Paul, Minnesota, Rudy traveled extensively throughout Europe in 1967. Rudy was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for many years and served as a council member. Rudy did not have children of his own, but was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include siblings Arlene Howarth of Mendota, Charlotte Mauk of Roscoe, Philip (Salley) of Mt Morris and Dorothy (Craig) Wood of Hartford, Wi; nieces and nephews Thom, Fern McCammond, Susan Ross, Martha, David G. Mauk, Jane McCormick, Kate Wood, and Seth Wessels. Predeceased by parents, siblings Dolores, George, James, Marilyn; nephews Michael Thad and Jim Wessels.
Rudy never hesitated to help out his family, friends, and neighbors when they needed help.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial at Silver Creek Cemetery.
