Ruby D. Beckman

Ruby Downing Beckman, 83, of Rockford, passed away at home surrounded by her family on May 20, 2024. She was born on July 7, 1940, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the daughter of Thaddeus Dean Downing and Cornelia (Clark) Downing. She married Donald Beckman on December 26, 1959, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Ruby graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in the first class of dental assistants and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Rockford College. She spent 1978 – 1994 as a dedicated General Accounting Manager at Anderson Brothers. Ruby enjoyed golfing, winning numerous events. She was also a devoted and dedicated swimmer and loved to travel any chance she had. She enjoyed her walks with the numerous dogs that she loved and cherished throughout her life. She volunteered with different hospice groups and was a member of Second First Congregational Church. Ruby loved her retirement years spent at Magnolia Greens in Leland, North Carolina where she enjoyed walks on the beach, dolphin watching and walking the dog around the neighborhood. Ruby was a compassionate, loving, caring and understanding wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Don; son, Steve (Andrea); grandchildren, Alexis, Bradley, and Connor; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Candy and Sharon; She is predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Second First Congregational Church, 318 N. Church Street Rockford, IL 61101. A visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a hospice of your choice. Please share memories and condolences online.
