Roy C. Harrigan Jr., 92, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Born on October 20, 1922, in Troy, Tennessee, the son of Roy C. and Zora (Wilke) Harrigan. Roy was a Veteran serving in World War II under General Patton’s 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. Roy married Angeline M. Gaspari on October 26, 1946; this year would’ve been their 70th anniversary. He worked for many years repairing cars and then went on to teach that to students in the Rockford Public School District. Roy was a Charter member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Roy was a very cordial man and it was common for him to strike a conversation with anyone he met along his way.
Survived by his son, Bradley (Diane) Harrigan; grandchildren, Shannon Harrigan and Brian (Tanya) Harrigan; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Harrigan and Liam Harrigan; sisters-in-law, Irene Pauletto and Cornelia Gastner and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Angeline on June 3, 2013, brother, Prentiss, sisters-in-law, Catherine (Ben) Cebas, Elizabeth (Maury) Bloom and Esther Gaspari and brother-in-law, Al Pauletto.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Avenue. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of prayer at 9:45 a.m. prior to the mass in the parish hall on Friday. Entombment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family.
