Roy N. Abare, age 84, died peacefully in his favorite Eames chair watching the Bears game (thanks Bears) on Sunday November 10th 2024. He was born in Dayton Ohio and left this mortal coil after 14 kind years of living in Rockford Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Sue, his children Timothy (Bridget) Abare and Anne (Tim) O’Neil and 4 grandchildren, Ella, Jude, Holden and Noel.
Skip, as he was known to friends and family, was a modern-day Renaissance man. He spent his early childhood as an infamous biter of neighborhood kids but soon channeled this energy into art and parlayed his gift into a long and successful career in design and advertising in Chicago. “Skipper” had the mind of an scientist and the soul of an artist. He was a painter and graphic designer, built an architectural cabin in the woods, constructed an AC Shelby Cobra in the family sunroom and garage, and became a master vintage British motorcycle restorer. He was always curious about the world and mastered any discipline that interested him. He will be missed deeply by his family and the Home Depot tool aisle.
A service will be held for this multi-faceted, multi- talented man, at The Unitarian Universal Church on 4848 Turner St in Rockford Il at 1 PM, Saturday November 23rd.
