Rosario S. Tarara, 74, of Rockford, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family. Born April 13, 1941 the son of Antonino Tarara and Giovanna Parisi in Aragona, Sicily immigrating to Rockford in 1968. Rosario earned his Land Surveying and Civil Engineering degree from Filippo Brunelleschi College in Agrigento, Sicily. On November 7, 1970 he married his loving wife, Marva Ackerman at St. Peters Cathedral Church in Rockford. He worked for Arnold Lundgren Associates for many years leaving to open his own firm, Rosario S. Tarara Land Surveying Inc., in 1994. He was a member of the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors and he volunteered with the Boy Scouts, coached soccer for Holy Family and AYSO and also served on the Education Board of Holy Family Parish. Rosario also contributed his time and talent to the construction of St. Anthony’s Memory Garden and church parking lot. He had a bottomless love for children giving freely of his attention to “Rossi’s girls”, Katie Carroll, Jennifer (Heckel) Hollmann, Phyllis (Chiarelli) Gargas, Ellen (Chiarelli) James and Dr. Kisti Gibbs Catalano and Rosaria (Tarara) Peffer.
Survivors include his wife, Marva Tarara; sons, Antonino R. Tarara and Mario J. Tarara of Rockford; brother, Joseph (Lori) Tarara of Rockford; sister, Teresa (Tarara) Cilona; nieces, Giovanna, Valeria and Danila Cilona of Favara, Sicily; niece and nephews, Gina (Ryan Roberts) Tarara, Adam and Nino Tarara of Rockford and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Ackerman of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carmela.
Funeral Mass, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Entombment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation Friday, July 17 from 4-7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Rosary service to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Saturday at church from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:15 a.m. in lieu of flowers memorials to the family for a remembrance to be established at St. Anthony Church.
