Ronald W. Johnson, Md.

Ronald W. Johnson, MD., 84, of Rockford, was called home on Thursday, January 14, 2016. He was born on February 18, 1931, in Chicago, IL; to parents, Albert and Isabelle (O’Connor) Johnson. Ronald married his loving wife, Charlotte (Stoll) Johnson at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, in Evanston, IL, on October 1, 1955. A graduate of the Loyola Medical School in 1956. He was medical director of the Singer Zone Center, Associate Professor at the University Of Illinois Medical School, Evans Scholar, a member of the Winnebago County Medical Society, and the American Psychiatric Association. Ronald was also a former member of the Forest Hills Country Club, and enjoyed his Monday a.m. retired physicians coffee group. A devout member at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ronald served as the first Psychiatrist for the Rockford Catholic Diocese, and went on to practice psychiatry in the Rockford community for 36 years, retiring in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Johnson; seven children, Dr. Steven (Kathy) Johnson, Racine, WI, Dr. David (Cindy) Johnson, Rockford, IL, Dr. Kenneth (Annette) Johnson, Brookfield, WI, Dr. Michael (Janice) Johnson, Brookfield, WI, Mark Johnson, Rockford, IL, Douglas (Kristin) Johnson, Stillwater, MN, Sharon (Mark) Ellerbeck, Omaha, NE; twenty one grandchildren, Dr. Melissa (Gary Fibich) Johnson, Omaha, NE, Sarah (Christopher) Hammes, Dallas, TX, Lindsey (Ryan) Greenawald, Racine, WI, Dr. Paul (Emily) Johnson, Omaha, NE, Dr. Scott Johnson, Charleston, SC, Dr. Richard Johnson, Buffalo, NY, Dr. Karl Johnson, Ann Arbor, MI, Lauren Johnson, Milwaukee, WI, Alex Johnson, Brookfield, WI, Nicole Johnson, Madison, WI, Rachel, Emily and Ryan Johnson, Brookfield, WI, Christopher and Gabrielle Johnson, Rockford, IL, Matthew, Thomas, and Mary Johnson, Stillwater, MN, Emma, Sam, Annie Ellerbeck, Omaha, NE; four great grandchildren, Alessandra and Maxwell Johnson, Omaha, NE, Jack and Lillian Hammes, Dallas, TX; brother, Dr. William Johnson; brother-in-law, Chris Stoll; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ronald is predeceased by his parents.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2016; at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4407 Highcrest Road, Rockford, IL, 61107. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108; with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayers at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be private and on a later date. Memorial donations may be given the Evans Scholar Foundation. The Johnson Family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Richard Nora and his staff at the OSF St. Anthony Cancer Center, and also to the OSF Hospice Staff for all of their compassionate care.
