Ronald "Ron" Knauer, 73, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, July 15. 2020.
Ron was born in Savanna, IL on March 8, 1947, son of Donald and Lydamae (Burris) Knauer. Ron married Christine Johnson on September 12, 1970 at St. Rita Catholic Church where he was also a member.
Ron enjoyed playing the coronet when he was in high school, receiving several awards, he was very proud of. He worked as supervisor of shipping for Rockford Spring Company for many years. Ron was very skilled working on computers and he enjoyed working on cars. Ron also volunteered at the Special Olympics.
He loved doing special things for his wife, such as surprise weekend getaways and always making sure to get her a McDonald's diet Coke, which she loved, every Christmas even driving to the Belvidere oasis to buy one. Ron passed 2 months shy of their 50th anniversary.
Ron was a war veteran. He served as a Sgt. in the Army in the Vietnam War.
Ron will be dearly missed. Those left to honor Ron's memory include his loving wife, Chris Knauer, daughters Nicky(Tom) Danielson, and Cindy Knauer, and parents-in-law, Fred (Mary Jane) Johnson. He is predeceased by his parents. A special thank you to Msgr. Kobbeman and Father Pierre Polycarpe for their years of encouragement, support and prayers for Ron and his family.
Funeral mass on Wednesday, January 3rd, at 11:00a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. Msgr. Gerald Kobbeman will officiate. Luncheon to follow at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private burial at Arlington Cemetary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Poor Claires.
