Ronald L. Gordon Sr.

Ronald L. Gordon Sr., 75, of Cherry Valley passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, March 20, 2017 in his home. He was born on March 10, 1942 in Rockford, the son of Richard and Pearle (Collins) Gordon. He graduated from Belvidere High School. He met the love of his life, Sherry Robbins, and the two married on October 9, 1966 in Cherry Valley. He worked for many years as a truck driver and in security. Ronald was active in his community, serving as a board member for the Cherry Valley Cemetery, a long time member of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, and the Northern Illinois Emmaus Community. He was a visionary that saw the good in everyone. Ronald never met a stranger and inspired many. He loved music, and enjoyed playing the piano. He had a technology savvy mind, always learning about the latest in advancements. Above all else, he was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his sons, Ronald (Leta) Gordon, Ryan (Janis) Gordon, and Robin (Michelle) Gordon; his grandchildren, Jennifer A. Gordon, Ryan L. Gordon Jr., John P. Gordon, Callie L. Gordon, Zachery J. Gordon; his brothers and sisters in-law; special “Daughter”, Beth Lynn Erlandson; nephew, Denny Stemwedel; niece, Sandy Sears; cousin, “Babe” Thomas; and mother in-law, Pearl Robbins. Predeceased by his parents, sister, Marge Stemwedel, brother in –law, Harvey Stemwedel, father in-law, John L. Robbins, aunt, Bernice “Toots” Slattery, and uncle, Everett “Bud” Collins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Cherry Valley United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cherry Valley United Methodist, Cherry Valley Cemetery Board, Northern Illinois Emmaus, or the Main Street Players of Boone County Theater.
