Ronald J. Thorson, 85, lifelong resident of Rockford passed away on August 30, 2022. A loving husband, father and grandfather was born in Rockford on June 20, 1937, son to Bernt and Margaret (Lindgren) Thorson. Ronald graduated from East High School and went on to join the U.S. Navy, later working in the tool and die industry, National Lock, and finally retired from Chrysler Corporation; He also was a volunteer Fireman at Kishwaukee Fire Department. On October 1, 1960, he married the love of his life, Doris Rust. They were both members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. After retirement Ronald loved to spend his time bowling, golfing, cheering on the Cubs baseball team, many Golden Ager trips and cruises, and cherished making new memories with his family. Ronald will always be remembered as having a smile on his face and a positive attitude no matter what.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris; his son James (Jeanrose) Thorson and daughter in law Laura; his grandchildren Ryan, Kurt, Benjamin, Thomas, and Heidi Thorson; brother Ken (Sharon) Thorson. He is predeceased by his son, David Thorson. A very special thank you to OSF hospice Care, and nurse Amy, CNA Chris and Dr. Korkmaz for the care and compassion they showed Ronald and his family.
Cremation rites have been accorded to Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel. Private Funeral Services to take place at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with inurnment to follow.
