Ronald E. Locarno, 74, of Rockford passed away peacefully in his home, on Monday, January 8, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was lovingly surrounded by his family. Born January 25, 1943, in Rockford, the son of Mario and Sarah (Fabiano) Locarno. He married Vita Gianquinto on April 15, 1972. Ron was in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966 and served in Vietnam. He worked as a letter carrier for the US Post Office for 50 years. Ron loved to play golf and was a fan of the Bears and Cubs. He was a man deeply devoted to his wife, children, granddaughter, brother, sister, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends.
Survived by his wife, Vita; son, Thomas (Christine) Locarno; daughter, Jenny (Bryan Hoover) Locarno; granddaughter, Hazel Hoover; sister, Marlene (Fred) Miller; brother, John (Karen) Locarno, sisters-in-law, Angela Franks and Connie Hovis and special friend, Julie Leese. Predeceased by his parents, Mario and Sarah, in-laws, Philip and Anne Gianquinto and brother-in-law, Larry Franks. The family sincerely thanks the staff at UW Madison Carbone Cancer Center and Northern Illinois Hospice for their loving care and support.
Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 14 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
