Roland Lee Jones

Roland Lee Jones, 92, Cherry Valley, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021, in his home. He was born on April 22, 1928, in Huntington, Arkansas, the son of Pruitt Monroe and Frizell “Rosie” (Roberts) Jones. Lee married Barbara J. Newman in Rockford on November 5, 1949. She passed away in Rockford on June 15, 2015. He and his partner owned Woodman and Jones Construction Company and built many homes in the Rockford area. Lee was a member of Carpenter’s Local #792 for over 50 years. He was a lover of animals, enjoyed fishing, was an avid Cubs fan. He and Barbara enjoyed all kinds of dancing especially “round dancing”.
Survived by his children, Darrell, Glenn, and Hal Jones, Stephanie (Terrell) Mathis, and Jessica Young; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife of over 65 years, Barbara and an infant son.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Dean Parker officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Lee’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 111 S. Alpine Rd. #307, Rockford, IL 61108. Masks are required and social distancing rules will apply.
