Roger Wilson Newell

Roger Wilson Newell, 88, Rockford, died on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in Wesley Willows Health Center. Born February 18, 1934 in Peoria, son of Raymond and Esther Strong Newell. Graduated from Northwestern Military Academy and attended Ripon College. Veteran of the United States Air Force. Married Margaret Thomas Henry on August 27, 1977 in Rockford. He was employed for many years in management for Commonwealth Edison. Roger was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church and volunteered for several community organizations, including “One Body”. He was a mild mannered, peace maker personality with a good sense of humor. Always an honorable man, he touched the lives of all those who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; sons, Ron (Sauano) Newell and William Newell; daughter, Charlotte (Mark) Larsen; grandchildren, Emmett Wilson Newell, Megan, Carly, Katie and Sarah Larsen and Dom Walton; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Ava and Danica; sister, Ruth Hedberg and nieces, Laurie Fisher and Julia Ellwanger Also survived by special family friend, Janis Schmidt Tauschek and the mother of his children, Gwynne Vosburgh. Predeceased by his parents and son David.
A memorial service to honor Roger will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Jane Eesley officiating. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Northern Illinois Hospice or One Body.
