Roger E. Peterson Sr., 85, of Rockford, died Thursday, August 31, 2017 after a brief illness. Born January 30, 1932 in Rockford, the son of Eskil and Astrid (Nelson). Graduated from East High School and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Roger married his best friend and love of his life, Carol Yunk, and together they had two children. Roger worked for Hamilton-Sundstrand in the Accounting Department for more than 30 years before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed his time in Northern Wisconsin at his summer home on Alder Lake. He loved the great outdoors, especially sitting on the front porch of Alder Stuga overlooking the lake. He enjoyed boating, fishing and long nature walks. But mostly, he enjoyed time spent with his family. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a longtime contributor and member of the UW Student Union.
Survivors include his son, Roger (Shelie) Peterson Jr. of Rockford; daughter, Linda (Mark) Leonard of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Courtney (Dustin) Daily and Siena Peterson. Preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral service Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Burial will be held in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home and continues on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
