Roger E. Reeverts

June 12, 1937 — June 7, 2022

Roger Eugene Reeverts, 84, passed away on June 7, 2022, at Swedish American Hospital. He was born in Byron, IL on June 12, 1937, the son of Elmer and Florence (Webster) Reeverts. He graduated from Byron High School, valedictorian, class of 1955. He then went on to Beloit College and graduated from Rockford Business School.

Roger met the love of his life, Wanda “Wanie” (Warnke), at Rockford Business School. They married on April 25,1959 in Harvard, IL. Together they had two sons, Steve and Doug Reeverts.

Roger was a production control manager for Sundstrand Aviation, Rockford Powertrain for twenty-seven years, and Youngberg Industries. In retirement, he then worked part-time as a Tax Checker for DEL Tax and Accounting and drove cars for Speedway Auto Mall.

Member of The Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd, where he taught Sunday school, served on the church council and was past congregational president.

Roger was passionate about sports, fishing and boating with family and friends at Balsam and Apple Canyon Lakes. In his younger years he played basketball, baseball, football, and ran track. He coached Roy Gayle Pony Baseball for nineteen years, refereed high school basketball, played/coached the Grasshopper Tap Men’s softball team, and served as commissioner of numerous Fantasy Football leagues for many years.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend to those who knew him. He enjoyed gardening, canning tomatoes, baking his famous zucchini bread, playing poker monthly with his friends, and helping others in the neighborhood mow their lawns.

Roger will be missed by those who loved him, his wife, Wanie; children, Steve (Susan) Reeverts, Doug (Fran) Reeverts; grandchildren, Nathan, Justin (Stephanie) and Nicholas. He is predeceased by his parents.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life, 11:00a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Lemonholm officiation. Visitation from 10:00a.m. until of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Reeverts family to plant a tree in honor of Roger.
