Robert “Bob” Wesley Hicks (1951 – 2017)
Bob, 65, of Rockford passed away January 14, 2017 after a nearly six year battle against cancer. He was born to William E. and Mary A. Hicks on August 13, 1951 in Rockford, Illinois; the first of five children. After completing grade school at St. Patrick’s School in Rockford, he graduated from Boylan High School in 1969, and Rock Valley College in 1989, receiving his Associate Degree in Electronic Technology.
Bob married the love of his life, Mary Lynn Langsten in Wauwatosa, WI on 10/17/81. Bob enjoyed all sports. He played on St. Patrick’s 5th & 6th grade football team that was undefeated and unscored upon; as well as the 1964 Rockford National League Junior Pony World Series team. Bob played on local adult basketball and baseball teams, including RIAA teams and local softball tournament teams. He helped coach his daughters in soccer (despite knowing little about the sport at the time) and basketball. He was a big Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cubs fan. Bob was employed at W. A. Whitney/MegaFab since 1979 as an electronic technician and field service engineer travelling the USA and world extensively.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary Lynn, daughters Elizabeth (Zach) Enderle (Rockford) and Amy Hicks (Milwaukee, WI); granddaughter Quinn Enderle; mother Mary A. Hicks; sisters Cheryl (Terry) Fuller (Roscoe, IL) and Kathleen (Pete) Grimes (Effingham, IL); brothers Pat (Dr Lynn Barbour) Hicks (Arvada, CO) and John (Michelle) Hicks (Wichita, KS); as well as many nieces, nephews. great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father William and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Mass will be 10 am Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N Church St, Rockford, IL 61103. Visitation will be Thursday night from 5-7 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103, and from 9 am to time of mass on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials in Bob’s honor can be given to Healing Pathways c/o OSF St Anthony Medical Center Foundation, 5666 E State St, Rockford, IL 61108 or the Cathedral of St Peter, 1243 N Church St, Rockford, IL 61103.
