Robert V. "Bob" Anderson, 88, of Rockford died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.He was born October 1, 1923 in Rockford, IL; the son of Oscar and Edna (Bjork) Anderson.He served in the 2002 nd Engineers attached to the U.S. Army Air Force in England, France, and Germany during WWII.Bob met and married Mary T. "Tess" King while stationed in England they married November 18, 1944 at St. Mary On The Sea Catholic Church in Grimsby Lincolnshire, England during WWII. He pitched for the European Theater Champion Softball team. Bob worked as a header die maker at National Lock Company, retiring after 33 years.He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Post 9759. An avid baseball player, bingo player and bowler, and a die hard Cubs fan.A volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Share Program.Survivors include his wife Tess, children, Steven R. (Peggy) Anderson, Susanne M. (Steven) Kirkham, grandchildren, Todd J. Anderson, Mathew C. Kirkham, Chad M. Anderson, Jason R. Kirkham and one sister Katheryn Milner.He was predeceased by parents and several siblings. Visitation from 47 pm Friday, October 14, 2011 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford, Rockford, IL 61108, and 9:3010:30 am Saturday at the church. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, IL. Burial in Arlington Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials will be determined at a later date.
