Robert M. Bullet Compton, 57, of Cherry Valley, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2008. Born October 13, 1950 in Reedsburg, WI to Arthur and Hilda (Rockweiler) Compton. Married Susan Wolf in Stillman Valley on May 1, 1982. Robert was a dedicated employee at Schlichting amp; Sons Excavating for 17 years and a loyal union member of Teamsters Union No.325. He and his wife were co-owners of the Caron Road Laundromat in Rochelle for 21 years. He was a member of the St. Rita Catholic Church. He loved to ride his motorcycle, with one of his most special trips being an 1,100 mile trip on the gravel Alcan Highway with his wife to Alaska. He was a Green Bay Packer fan through thick and thin and a proud team stockholder. He was a good-natured, down-to-earth, joke-telling, straight-talking man who appreciated the simple joys in life. He proudly flew the American flag at his home. He was the proud owner of Double Dose, an impressive 1155 Massey-Ferguson pulling tractor, with which he and his son won many competitions. Robert was a devoted husband and father, a skilled mechanic and businessman, and a loyal friend to many. Survivors include his wife Susan of Cherry Valley, daughter Katie of Burlington, VT, and son Nick of Cherry Valley. Additional family members include son, Keith (Lori) Durst of El Paso, IL; grandchildren, Hailey and Hannah Durst; siblings, Louise Kaltenberg, Arthur J. (Elaine) Compton, Anna (Dave) Zenz, all of Madison WI, Maryjane Montgomery of Blakely, GA, Gerry (Mary Lou) Compton of Tulsa, OK, and Deena (Brent) Byers of Austin, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Yolanda Garcia of Rochelle, IL. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Anita Drewek. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Dr., with Rev. William R. Wentink officiating. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday August 10, 2008 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Mausoleum.
