Rockford – Robert L. Fritz, 88, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017, at Cherryvale Place of Rockford. Born December 24, 1928 in Rockford, IL, the son of Ferdinand “Ferdie” and Edna (Carlson) Fritz. Graduated from East High School, class of 1946. He married his high school sweetheart Virginia “Ginna” Fritz December 23, 1947 in Freeport, IL. He found his enjoyment in driving, whether it was driving cross country with his family, driving a charter bus for Dunn Right Travel or shuttling passengers to O’Hare Airport with Peoria-Rockford Bus Company. Bob and Ginna met while attending Luther League together at Zion Lutheran Church. They became charter members of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church where Robert served in many different capacities including his favorite, singing in the church choir. Bob’s joy over the last 68 years was being a partner to Ginna, and a support to Ginna and their family.
Survivors include: daughter Diane (Joe) Spanier; son Don (Kris) Fritz; grandchildren Andy (Michelle) Spanier, Brian Spanier, Carmen Hoar, Sara (Matt) Bowers, Amy Fritz, Jessica (Joey) Mathews and Joshua Fritz; 4 great grandsons (Jacob, Matthew, Elijah and Alex), and 2 great granddaughters (Kayla and Jenna); sister Bev “Jean” Shetley. Predeceased by wife Virginia (Ginna) Fritz, Parents, sister Betty Fritz and brother in law Ron Shetley.
A Special Thank-you to all the nurses and staff at Cherryvale Place and Heartland Hospice for their Love and compassionate care of both Robert and Virginia.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Scott Benolkin officiating. Visitation from 6 -8 p.m. Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory 1860 S. Mulford Rd, Rockford, 61108 and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
