Robert Leonard Fleming, 84, Springfield, Missouri, formerly of Rockford, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born November 6, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Harold and Rose (Rice) Fleming. Robert was a graduate of Rockford East High School, University of Hawaii and Alexander Hamilton University. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was awarded the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Robert married Sandra Lee Tuller Fleming in Woodstock on April 4, 1970. He was Vice President of GC Electronics-Textron and later owner and CEO of Carter Corporation. He semi-retired in 1991. Robert was a lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose and the Good Sam Club. He enjoyed gardening, travel, his recreational vehicles, and fishing. He was an avid White Sox and Packer fan. He also loved dogs. Survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Sean Robert(Kathryn DeNure) Fleming, of Springfield, MO; brother, Patrick (Josephine) Fleming of Rockford; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, son, Christopher, and brother, Andrew Fleming.

Funeral Mass will be 11am, Saturday, September 12, 2009, in St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Dr., Rockford, IL 61109 with Monsignor Gerald P. Kobbeman officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation from 10am until 10:45 am at the church. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Cremator, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108.
