ROBERT J. MACKEY, 57 LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER AND FRIEND Robert J. Mackey, 57, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center following a sudden heart attack. Born October 11, 1951 in Rockford; son of James and Beverly (Miller) Mackey. Married Janet L. (Aschim) Mackey in Rockford on November 21, 1969. He served in the Army stationed in Germany. Bob was employed from 1977-1984 at M.C. Chemical Company, then he worked at Kelley Williamson from 1984-1997 and was currently working for PetroLiance. Longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where he was active in the Christian Life Stephens Ministry and played on their mens softball team for many years. He was involved in Scouting for over 50 years and still active with Ship 508. Member of Rockford Art Museum and the Greenwich Village Art Fair Board, Past President of the East High Booster Club and active in many of the schools functions. Some of his other memberships include the American Society of Lubrication Engineers and former Vice President of American Electroplating Society. Bob was an avid fisherman taking many trips to the Boundary waters and Michigan with his family. He loved golfing and downhill skiing and was an avid Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan. Survivors include his wife, Jan; son, Tim Mackey; daughter, Christy Mackey; grandchildren, Tyler and Riley Mackey; parents, Jim and Bev Mackey; brothers, Rick (June)Mackey, Chuck (Tobi) Mackey; favorite sister, Carol (Steve) Schultz; sister-in-law, Karen Mackey; brother and sister-in law, Ed and Dee Wilson; nieces and nephews, Brad, Greg, Jeff, Anne, Alana, Randy and Biff; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, many special friends and Bobs buddy, Cody Dog. Predeceased by his brother, Dave; grandparents; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Gladys Aschim. Bob enjoyed life to its fullest and had a great sense of humor. A family man at heart, Bob cherished all the family celebrations and outings. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Memorial service will be held at 7:00pm Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural Street, Rockford, IL, 61107 with Rev. Dr. Loren Nielsen and Rev. Lee Laaveg co-officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4-7pm Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Ship 508 for a special fund.
