ROBERT H. LANDIS, 89, Rockford, formerly of Edina, MN, and Camp Hill, PA, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He was born September 30, 1925, in Rohrerstown, PA to Howard Brubaker Landis and Helen King Landis. He was a graduate of East Hempfield Township High School, Lancaster, PA and then served in the US Army during World War II. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Three Bronze Stars. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Ethel Brubaker, on June 14, 1947, in Lancaster, PA. After graduating from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, Robert spent his entire work career with Allied Stores, Inc., working at Pomeroy’s in Harrisburg, PA and Levittown, PA, serving as President of The James Black Company in Waterloo, Iowa, and retiring from Donaldson’s (now Carson Pirie Scott) in Minneapolis, MN. Robert was a Life Master Bridge player and he and Ethel traveled extensively in retirement. Robert and Ethel moved to Rockford in his later retirement years where he was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ethel, his children David (Jane) Landis, Barbara (Mark) Huffman, Jennifer (James) Broden, and grandchildren Frances Landis, Charles Landis, Landis (Kristina) Huffman and Bristol Huffman. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Betty Landis Kopp. Funeral will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 412 North Church Street, Rockford, IL 61103.
