Robert “Bob” N. Dwan, 92, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. 

Bob was born January 15, 1933, in Rockford, IL, the son of Robert E. and Katherine C. (Peterson) Dwan. He graduated from Belvidere High School and attended College at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. Bob married Margaret “Marge” A. James October 8, 1966, at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere. He was a dedicated employee of National Lock Company for 43 years until retirement. Bob’s career led him to Greenville, South Carolina until moving back to Rockford with his family in 2000. He was a longstanding member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere and attended St. James Catholic School. Upon returning to Rockford, he was very active at St. Rita Catholic Church including the Knights of Columbus and serving as an usher and eucharistic minister. Bob was a devout Catholic who was strong in his faith. He also volunteered his time at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Community Center. Bob enjoyed many travels throughout his career, and later vacationing to numerous locations after retirement, including some winters in the south. Bob also loved golfing, bowling, cheering on the Chicago Bears and listening to big band music. He was a talented saxophone player in the Belvidere civic band and a member of the Bell Tones band. Above all else, Bob’s family was at the center of his world. He will be dearly missed. 

Bob is survived by his wife, Marge Dwan; children, Lynn (Jamie) Harvey, Kim (Chuck) Leonard, Linda Jo (Mike) GiConte, Jeff (Karen) Stone, Sharon (Kevin) McGraw and Robin (Dean) Jones; grandchildren, Heather and Alex Harvey, Chuck, Leigh and Christian Leonard, Michael GiConte, Anna Bournival, Jason Stone, Amy Manes and Lena Johnson; 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Katherine; 1 infant sister, Jo Marilyn and his first wife, Betty Harms.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and compassion. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dwan family to be established at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church St. Belvidere, IL 61008. A private luncheon for the immediate family will be held following Mass. Burial will conclude later in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere, IL.
