Robert Dixon

Robert (Bob) Dixon of Belvidere, IL died on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL from a sudden illness. He was born December 15, 1940 in Rockford and he graduated from East High School in 1958. He married Helen Shields in 1961. He owned Belvidere Motors from 1969 until 2009. Recently, he worked with his son at Dixon Auto Sales. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Rockford and a visitor of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Belvidere. He was a former member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Cosmopolitan Club of Belvidere and several antique automobile clubs. He also served on several bank boards. Bob is predeceased by parents, Clarence and Flossie Dixon; step-father, Paul Miller; and brother John. He is survived by wife, Helen; daughter and husband, Brenda and Bill Gates; daughter and husband, Sara and Jeff Sorensen; son and wife, Gary and Gloralee Dixon. Bob also leaves 4 grandchildren, Joshua Sorensen who is serving with the Peace Corps in Mozambique, Africa; Alexis Sorensen of NYC; Austin Dixon, currently attending Arizona State University; and Hunter Dixon; brothers Fred (Nell) Dixon of FL and Jim Dixon of Rockford, and sister-in-law Louise Yankowskas of FL.
Visitation to be held this Friday from 5-8pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Funeral service at 10am Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd., Belvidere with Reverend Allan Buss to officiate. Private family burial to follow with Pastor Jay Quinn officiating.
