Robert Charles Mitchell

Robert Charles Mitchell, 82, of Rockford passed away peacefully Friday, February 27, 2015 in his daughter’s home with his son-in-law, Rob, by his side. Born January 29, 1933 in Hebron, Nebraska to Charles and Armelina (Brin) Mitchell. He married the love of his life Evelyn Meyer on November 22, 1955 in Beatrice, Nebraska. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Shortly after he returned from the war, he and Evelyn moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Robert was employed by Dahl’s Foods for over 30 years. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with horses and dogs, golf, gardening, bird watching, reading, and watching John Wayne and other cowboy movies. Robert leaves to cherish many loving memories, his wife Evelyn, daughter Sue (Rob) Nunez, and grandchildren Jacob, Alexandria, and Zoe Nunez all of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents. Robert’s family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Northern Illinois Hospice for their loving care and friendship.
Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church, 4600 Meredith Drive, Des Moines, IA 50310. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice.
