Robert C. Von Der Ohe

December 6, 1940 — August 25, 2016

Bob Von der Ohe 1940-2016 passed away at home on Thursday, August 25 while under Hospice care. He was born December 6, 1940, in Sparta, Wisconsin; son of Gale and Veva Kenyon. Growing up in Tomah, Wisconsin, he graduated from Tomah High School followed by Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After serving in Quito, Ecuador while in the Peace Corp, he returned to the US where he completed a PhD in Economics at the University of Tennessee. He held college teaching positions before becoming the chief economist of the National Credit Union Association in Madison, Wisconsin, and during that time, he provided lectures and seminars for local credit unions in most of the 50 states. After leaving Madison, he taught economics and finance at Rockford College for a number of years.
Throughout his professional career, he assisted in developing federal credit union policies, focused on poverty issues, and helped train the next generation of economists. He did a great deal of international consulting in Center and South America, Africa, and Poland at times on a volunteer basis. He worked to help provide people with the tools they needed to help themselves and often stood up for people who were not in a position to be heard despite the potential consequences to himself.
