Robert “Bob” Albert Mattocks, 89, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on January 8, 2022. He was born in Bonham, Texas on May 25, 1932 to Roy and Dorothy (Hancock) Mattocks. Bob was an early resident of Rochelle and DeKalb, IL and moved to Rockford in 1942. He went to Rockford schools and took several police science classes at Rock Valley College. He graduated the FBI National Academy and served 25 years as a police officer on the Rockford Police Department and retired as a sergeant. He married Sylvia Houser on December 15, 1989. Bob was an avid golfer who loved to read, listen to music. He served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean War. Bob loved the military and the men and women in blue. They were his heroes. He was very patriotic and loved our country. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sylvia; his children, Roy (Mari) Mattocks, John (Dianna) Mattocks and Laura (Brian) Sutcliffe; his step daughters, Theresa (Jeff) Giamalva, Dana (Ted) Schmidt and Kathy Houser; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Tim Mattocks.
Cremation rights have been accorded. A celebration of Bob’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriner's.
