Richard S. "Dick" Schofield, 91, Rockford, passed away in his home Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born on May 22, 1922, in Freeport, the son of Ralph and Ruth (Stewart) Schofield. Dick was a veteran of the Army Signal Corp serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Arlene P. Opel in Neosho, MO on August 6, 1943. Dick was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone for 36 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1982. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Survived by his wife, Arlene; his daughters, Ruth (Barry) Hough of Bradenton, FL. Carol (Richard) Wray of Arlington, TX, and Mary (Jerry) Suhr of Rockford; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Karlen, Brian Hough, Eric (Melina) Hough, Kristin (Steve) Ramassini, Karin (Jim) Preusse, Jonathan (Christy) Wray, Matt (Holli) Suhr, and Julie Suhr; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., Rockford, with Reverend Tony Russo officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00P.M. until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and again from 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. on Monday at the church. Memorials to Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W.
