Richard L. “Rick” Seivert, 62, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines, IL after a hard-fought battle with congestive heart failure and associated complications. Rick was born in El Monte, CA on October 7, 1958, son of Ray and Claire (Anderson) Seivert. He graduated from Boylan Catholic High School in 1977 and later earned his associate degree at Rock Valley College. Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, Valerie Englund, at Holy Family Catholic Church on June 1, 1985. Rick was employed at UPS for 35 years before retiring in 2016. He was a lifetime member of the Rockford Catholic community, most recently at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Rick was an Eagle Scout and served as a Cub Scout leader. He was very active in the community as a member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus at St. Bernadette. He also volunteered his time with Lifescape and the Special Olympics. He enjoyed reading, attending sporting events, military history, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
Rick will be lovingly missed by his wife, Valerie; 3 children, Nicholas (Jahir Batista) of Philadelphia, PA, Catie (Christina Glavin), and Rebecca of Rockford; mother, Claire; siblings, Chris (Teri), Mike (Debi), Mark, Mary (John) Chlebek, and Joe (Brooke) Seivert; 4 grand dogs and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Ray, sister, Jennifer, and Goddaughter, Michel Bengtson.
Mass with Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave, Rockford, IL 61103. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave, Rockford, IL 61103. Those attending services must wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Final resting place will be in St. Mary/St. James Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family who wish to make contributions in Rick’s memory are encouraged to donate to American Veterans (AMVETS) of Illinois (ilamvets.com) or the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
