Richard P. Heaslip, 80, Rockford, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009 in his home. Born October 23, 1928 in Hanover, son of Lawrence and Alberta Thill Heaslip. Graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1946 and attended Loras College. Married Jennifer Mastrangeli on August 10, 1955. Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He was a builder and realtor in the Rockford area for many years. Richard was a long time member of the YMCA where he had played hand-ball for over 40 years. He was a member of the Lombardi and Verdi Clubs and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed spending time on his pontoon boat on the Rock River, but his main focus in life was as ""Pa"" to his grandchildren who he loved dearly. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer; children, Chris (Judy) Salamone, Cherry Valley, Steve (Kathy) Heaslip, San Raphael, CA, Kathleen (Kary) Peterson, Rockford, Dan Heaslip, Rockford, Peter (Kelly) Heaslip, Durand and Sue (Charles) Fricke, Winnebago. Also survived by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; brother, Roger (Dorey) Heaslip and sister, Ann De Santi both of Rockford. Predeceased by his parents and brother Jack (Mary) Heaslip. Richards family would like to extend their gratitude to OSF Hospice, especially his nurse, Marilyn and his special friend, Dick Adcock. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 in St. Edward Catholic Church with Rev. Michael G. Black officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
